I've been struggling to finish things lately, and despite lovely offers from friends (I see you, needled_ink_1975 and sporkmetender) to read and edit and share ideas, I've had every something cooking on every burner and it's not been pretty. I just read the conclusion to Stars Set Alight by ithinkyourewonderful; I really liked the story and have followed it for a couple of years, and the author decided to provide some concluding notes so she could move on to other projects in good conscience. I really respect that decision and wish her all the best in her writing. Honestly, that decision inspired me to wrap up this tiny (tiny, tiny) story I've had in the works. It's nothing splashy, but I enjoyed writing it.

Author's Note: A few weeks ago, I asked my friends list for some writing prompts. I'm planning to use as many of the prompts as possible in various ways, but this story is a response to baggers' request for "New York fashion week. The McCafe stand at the tents. (Seriously, this is a reality.)" So, here's a little less than 2,000 words on that sort of thing.

I fretted over “Recompense Delight”* more than any other fanfic I’ve ever posted. Writing it was a giddy, stay-up-far-too-late-typing style of FUN, but still I fretted.

*After the fact, I kind of think “Recompense Delight” sounds funny. What I meant by the title was that love and sex and the sharing of oneself with another are delightful things, and that just as the sinners in Romans “receiv[e] in themselves that recompense of their error,” it is possible to compensate another person for lovely things, too. Unfortunately, it kind of sounds like a dessert, like Marshmallow Pineapple Delight, or something. Oh well.

This story is about...family. And gender. And sex. Often at the same time, and in the cleverest, strangest, loveliest of ways. I recommend reading the author's warning before diving in, but I also recommend diving in at your earliest possible convenience, because this isn't a "squicky" story at all, but rather a story about how incredibly complicated it is to be a human. pin_drop does justice to every character's experience--even in their most private or most misunderstood of moments, I feel genuine emotion for all of them.

It's also extremely long, extremely sexy, and--even when it's sad or intense, sometimes especially when it's sad or intense--extremely fun to read. Go forth and find out for yourself!

Hot damn! This fic is fantastic, and it's (to my knowledge) the first fic the author has posted in this fandom, so I want to do my small part to make sure it gets read by as many people as possible. I don't want to give too much away, but it's all about lies and truth and power dynamics and the power of names, and it's sexy and psychologically rich and entertaining without a single gratuitous moment. It is very sad, but not hopelessly so, and its happy moments are the opposite of hokey. Definitely one of the best things I've read in awhile. Go read it, if you haven't already!

Summary: Sweet and funny, eh? My first ideas were about Andy's disapproving parents, Miranda's anger, and moving in together. It isn't exactly one day in the life, but I tried my best.

A/N: This fic is for thanatopsis76! I'm a big fan of her writing, so I was excited to write this story. This fic is brought to you by at least two bouts of writer's block, one bout of stomach flu, and a very sleepy Miranda.
A/N 2: Please note: I took some liberties in terms of time frame. The story takes place about two years after the end of the movie. Because the recession of 2008 plays into this story, I imagined that the Fashion Week during which Andy leaves Miranda was October 2006, even though the movie came out that year. The action of this story takes place from November 2008-January 2009. Apparently I decided "sweet and funny" could also handle a tiny bit of recession-talk. Nothing too dire, though. I also decided to experiment with present tense in this story, though there are a lot of memories that take place in past-tense. Also, each of the three chapters starts out in Andy's POV and shifts to Miranda's after the break.
